He worked for 33 years as an A Operator with City Service and was a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. He is historically significant for his role as a key witness in the murder trial of serial killer suspect Felix Vail. Abshire provided videotaped testimony regarding the 1962 death of Vail’s wife, Mary, asserting that her drowning was a homicide rather than an accident, citing evidence such as a knot in her scarf and signs of rigor mortis. Although he passed away in May 2014, his recorded testimony was scheduled to be used in Vail’s trial the following year.
